Photo guide
Our photo check tells you if a photo is good, partly usable, or needs a retake — and which area caused it. These tips get you to “good” on the first try.
Illustrated examples with fictional people.

Hold the phone at eye level, straight in front of you. Turning or tilting your head changes how every proportion looks.
Face a window or a lamp. Avoid strong light from one side, direct flash, or a bright window behind you.
Keep your mouth closed and your face at rest. A big smile changes the mouth, cheeks and eyes.
From the hairline to the chin should be in the frame. Push hair back from the forehead and, if you can, behind your ears.
Remove sunglasses, hats, masks and hands. Clear glasses are fine if there is no glare.
One person, 18 or older. Group photos, photos of children, and photos of other people are not read.
Your face should fill most of the photo. Avoid heavy filters, beauty modes or edits.
What “partly usable” means
If your hairline or ears are covered, we still read the rest. The forehead and upper section become estimates and the ears card is skipped — we never guess at areas we cannot see.
